Youth Basketball League Overview 

Junior Dribblers (1st - 2nd Grade) 

In this co-ed, instructional league, players will be introduced to basketball through practice and game settings. 

All teams in this league will meet once a week for one hour on Saturdays. The first two weeks of the league will focus on practice only. Starting the third week, teams will practice for the first half hour, followed by a scrimmage with another team for the last half hour. 

This league uses elementary sized (25.5") basketballs and plays on lowered hoops. 

Each player will receive a team shirt to wear for the season. All other equipment will be provided.

Youth Basketball League (3rd - 8th Grade) 

Each age group will be divided into teams with a maximum of 10 players each. Age groups may be combined if numbers are low. Boys and girls will be on separate teams.

League information: 

Teams will practice once a week (on the night they registered for) from 7:00-8:00pm at a Woodland District 50 school. Please note: if Woodland gyms are not available, practices will be held at the Hunt Club Park Community Center. 

Practices will begin on Monday, November 29th (please note: we will not hold any practices during winter break. Practices will resume on Tuesday, January 11th). 

Games will begin on Saturday, January 22nd, and will continue every Saturday until the season ends on Saturday, March 12.

All players will receive a reversible jersey to be worn during practices and games.

Additional Youth Basketball League Information: 

Evaluations: All 3rd-8th grade players are required to attend one of the evaluation days for the league. Evaluations are held for boys and girls in grades 3-8 only and help to create evenly balanced teams in the league.

  • During evaluations, players will be graded on their skills and ability levels as they complete a circuit that includes shooting, dribbling, layups, and passing. 
  • Evaluation dates and times:

    • Tuesday, November 9 - Hunt Club Community Center Gymnasium
      • 3rd/4th Grade - 6:00 - 7:00pm
      • 5th/6th Grade - 7:00 - 8:00pm
      • 7th/8th Grade - 8:00 - 8:45pm
    • Sunday, November 14 - Hunt Club Community Center Gymnasium
      • 3rd/4th Grade - 2:00 - 3:00pm
      • 5th/6th Grade - 3:00 - 4:00pm
      • 7th/8th Grade - 4:00 - 5:00pm

Youth Basketball Safety Protocols 

All Gurnee Park District Youth Basketball Leagues will follow any current COVID-19 related guidelines pertaining to indoor sports. 

Currently, all players, coaches, spectators, staff, and game officials are required to wear face masks per the IDPH All Sports Policy.

Game and Practice Schedules

Junior Dribblers (1st - 2nd Grade) 

Practices and games will be held on Saturdays at the Hunt Club Community Center gymnasium. 

Practice and game time will be conducted for one hour, and will vary week to week between 9:00am - 3:00pm. All schedules will be posted on the Gurnee Park District Team Sideline page. 

Youth Basketball League (3rd - 8th Grade) 

All 3rd-8th grade basketball practices and games will be held at a Woodland School District facility. If Woodland School gymnasiums are not available, practices and games will be held at the Hunt Club Community Center gymnasium. 

Practices are held from 7:00 - 8:00pm during the week. Games are held on Saturdays between 9:00am - 3:00pm. Game times will vary each week.

All schedules will be posted on the Gurnee Park District Team Sideline page by Monday, December 6th.

Gurnee Park District Youth Basketball Coaches

If your child is in the youth basketball league, you will be assigned to coach your child's team. When selected, the Athletics Supervisor will reach out with additional details for the season.
