Capital Projects

Gurnee Park District continually strives to update its existing facilities and parks to best fit your needs. See below for recent and future projects coming to you!

Jim Goshorn Park

Completed: Spring 2026

This project included the removal of the previous Hunt Club Park Community playground, which had been in use for over 25 years. Construction of the new playground began in August 2025, and includes new features such as a first of its kind “Tot Playland” designed for ages 6 months-2 years old, an “Early Childhood” play area for ages 2-5, and a main play area for ages 5-12, all enhanced with a protective layer of synthetic grass, or turf.

New playground equipment include a total of six slides with enclosed and open options, climbing apparatuses, shade structures,  swings, teeter-totters, two new spinner features, and a 100ft zip line.

In addition, ADA accessible elements have been added and improved, such as a transfer slide for wheelchair bound visitors, an ADA accessible swing, a swinging saucer pad, and the widening of the blacktop path encircling the park from 2ft to 5ft.

The playground and surrounding space have been renamed to honor the legacy of Gurnee Park District’s former Board President and park neighbor, Jim Goshorn, who passed away in the spring of 2025 after a courageous battle with cancer.

The construction of the new playground was made possible thanks to state line-item grants received from Illinois State Representative, Joyce Mason, and Illinois State Senator, Adriane Johnson.
