Join the GO Gurnee Walking Club at Volo Bog (28478 Brandenburg Road, Ingleside, IL)!
View map location here!
Directions/Walk Details: They have a floating half mile trail out to the actual bog but we’ll be taking the 2.5-mile trail that circumvents the property. Half is crushed stone and half is hard packed grass (with a very small section a floating walkway). It is quite hilly and as a matter of fact, the preserve calls this “moderately” difficult I say it is one of our hardest. If you only do the trail out to the bog and back it is roughly a half mile though it is an uneven surface (fascinating). If you do the bog plus trail around the bog it will be 3.4 miles total. Pets allowed but not encouraged with an uneven floating bridge, sensitive plants, and ticks. Bring bug spray!

Go Gurnee has strived to bring community members together to increase community health through activity, education, and collaboration. This May we are inviting everyone to join us for a FREE “GO GURNEE RE-BOOT: GET MOVING IN MAY”! Since Spring is a time for change and new beginnings, the Gurnee Park District wants to once again encourage our community to commit to moving by walking for at least 30 minutes each day.
With that said, it’s time to put on your walking shoes and get on over to Viking Park (4374 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee) for an afternoon of fun, comradery, & of course, walking. Participants will get a free “GO GURNEE” t-shirt and other GO Gurnee swag (while supplies last), learn about the many parks and walking paths Gurnee has to offer, and meet others in the community who want to better their health or even create a walking group. Fuel up on a FREE hot dog and chips (while supplies last)!
Have a furry friend that likes to walk too? Bring them along to meet with other dog lovers and even enjoy some pet-friendly GO Gurnee giveaways. If you don’t own a puppy, don’t worry as volunteers from “Reach Rescue”, a non-profit animal rescue group located out of Mundelein, IL, will be on hand with a few of their available rescues.
