We are pleased to recognize Customer Service Representative, David Hartshorne, as this year’s Part-Time Employee of the Year!
David exemplifies our SOFIE (Service, Ownership, Fun, Inclusion, and Excellence) values in everything he does. He is exceptionally service-oriented, genuinely welcoming every customer with warmth, professionalism, and compassion, often taking the time to get to know them by name and ensure their needs are fully addressed. David takes true ownership in his role, stepping up to assist during staff shortages, offering extra hours without hesitation, and following through on every commitment. He doesn’t simply pass along questions or concerns, but seeks out the best answers, collaborating with teammates to ensure everyone leaves feeling heard and supported.
In addition, David’s positive attitude, discretion, and thoughtful decision-making have earned the trust and respect of supervisors, colleagues, and community members across the organization. In doing so, he has consistently brought calm, clarity, and excellence to every situation.
Beyond his work here, David brings a remarkable range of life experiences that help to enrich everything he does for Gurnee Park District. As a published writer and editor, with work appearing in non-fiction and poetry publications, a creative artist and pottery instructor at the City of Lake Forest Arts Center, and a real estate appraiser, David applies his skills to contribute to the empathy, creativity, and insight he brings to our customers and team every day.
Since joining our organization as a Customer Service Representative in March of 2024, David has made a lasting impact. In less than a year after his start date, his dedication, reliability, and outstanding service earned him a well-deserved promotion to Customer Service Representative II.
Never seeking recognition, but rather showing up, giving his best, and making everyone around him better is something David displays daily.
In honor of his unwavering dedication, positive spirit, and exceptional service to our community and staff, we are proud to recognize David Hartshorne as our 2026 Part-Time Employee of the Year.
Congratulations, Daivd, and thank you for everything you do!
