​A message from Executive Director, Susie Kuruvilla, CPA, CPRP |  As we look to achieve new resolutions, Gurnee Park District is proud to support and help you achieve your health and wellness goals. From physical to mental to social health, we're here provide resources for your success.

Physical Health  

The end of the year means endless commercials for weight loss, fad diets, and gyms. It can be difficult to find what works for you, but Gurnee Park District through its many parks, facilities and programs including FitNation and GO GURNEE look to support you throughout your physical health journey. Here are a few resources:

  • Park District programs: adults and children can focus on improving their physical health through a variety of sports, dance, or by taking swim lessons. You can also dedicate time on your own at a variety of available open gym and swim times at both fitness locations.
  • FitNation memberships, group exercise and/or personal training
  • GO GURNEE: GO encourages the community to walk at least 30 minutes a day! This is something you can do with our walking club or on your own time.


So many ways to challenge yourself.

Mental Health  

Gurnee Park District provides options for every age to take a mental health break or focus on life skills to enhance overall mental state.

  • Youth life coaching: it is never too early to learn the importance of mental health.  One day programs are available to raise awareness of mental health while engaging in a fun, interactive activity.  Winter classes are listed below. 
  • Research shows that exercise and socialization are key to staying mentally healthy and we have plenty of options available for both of these such as our many parks, trails and various recreation programs.

Social Health  

From adult sports to volunteering and special events, there are plenty of ways to improve your social health this New Year.

  • Adult sports: volleyball is available every season; you can sign up as an individual or bring your teammates along. Don't forget you can play volleyball at open gym too! Other open gym options include basketball and Pickleball at both locations.
  • Volunteering is a great way to get involved, give back, and make friends. Help serve at our monthly mixers, make memories by assisting at our special events, or share your passion by coaching soccer, basketball or T-Ball.
  • Special events: If you're not volunteering your time at a special event, stop by with your family. Each season brings low cost or no-cost options for family fun!
