This weekend in Gurnee, go fishin'!

Blog Author: Beckie Korzyniewski, CPRP, Special Events Manager | Fishing is a wonderful outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by anyone at any age. All you need is worms, good fishing weather, patience and a lucky line!

On July 13, Hunt Club Park's Pond (900 Hunt Club Road) will host the 18th annual Fishing Derby from 8:30 am to 11:00 am. Free to participate, Fishing Derby is for 5 to 11 year olds. Prizes will be given to each age group; 5 – 6,  7 – 8, and 9 – 11. Last year, a 21 inch small mouth bass was caught, can you catch one that's bigger?

A limited number of bait and poles are available, but we strongly encourage participants to bring their own gear. Don't forget to bring along a few more things, including close-toe shoes, bug spray and sun block. With any outdoor event, be sure to check the weather and dress appropriately. Should inclement weather be forecasted, check the Rainout Line, or call 847-268-2080 prior to coming to Hunt Club Park.

This year, the Fishing Derby is proud to partner with the Illinois Park and Recreation Association's Unplug Illinois Day. On July 13, all across Illinois, people will ditch their electronic devices and "unplug" to enjoy everything that their local park and recreation agencies have to offer. Unplug Illinois, a program of the Illinois Park and Recreation Association, will promote parks as a place to play -- and the value that parks play in creating healthier communities.
