With summer winding down, three words are inevitably coming into every parent (and child's) mind: "back to school!" The start of a new school year can be stressful, especially as you begin to skim school supply lists or plan for that special first-day outfit. One thing you shouldn't have to worry about is where your child will go before or after school. 

The time children spend outside of school is important. With this said, GPD works to make the transition from summer to school easier for you and your child(ren)!

Benefits

  • Those who attend CARE continue to foster lasting friendships outside of the classroom
  • Children stay active in experiential learning through social interactions 
  • Activities coincide with monthly themes to enhance creativity
  • Have fun with outdoor/indoor play, games, crafts, homework and reading time
  • Daily snacks are provided for after school participants


Safety

  • All indoor and outdoor activities are conducted on GPD or Gurnee school district properties
  • Playgrounds at each location undergo extensive GPD safety checks and maintenance 
  • Staff to student ratio is 1:10. 
  • All staff are First-Aid, CPR, and AED certified


Convenient Locations

  • For those students who attend Woodland District 50, CARE is at Hunt Club Park Community Center
  • Students will be transported by bus to and from their respective schools
  • For those students who attend District 56, CARE is offered before school at Viking Park 
  • For those students who attend District 56, CARE is offered after school at Spaulding School and River Trail
  • Transportation is also available to River Trail for those who attend Prairie Trail School and Viking Middle School


Flexible Options

  • Parents can choose from either three or five day monthly rates
  • For three day rates, parents select their dates
  • Before School CARE hours at all locations are 6:30 am to bus pickup time 
  • Parents are able to drop off for Before School CARE any time after 6:30 am and prior to bus pickup
  • After School CARE hours at all locations are from school dismissal time to 6:00 pm 
  • Parents are able pick up from After School CARE any time before 6:00 pm
  • District 50 CARE is available for Kindergarten through 6th grade
  • District 56 CARE is available for Kindergarten through 8th grade
  • CARE follows both District 50 & 56's school calendars, with early release days already built into monthly fees
