Take a Night Off With Gurnee Park District

GPD2017-ParentsNightOut-Facebook-event

Gurnee Park District hosts monthly Parents Night Out's at Hunt Club Park Community Center. These events are held one Saturday a month from 6:00-9:00pm and are for children ages 1-11 years old. Parents Night Out is the perfect opportunity for those looking to take a "night off." While the kids stay entertained, you can feel relaxed and enjoy some time together!

Often times, between working, house cleaning, meal prep, or that last minute school project which demands a trip to the drugstore at 8:00pm (we've all been there at some point or another), finding a few hours to reconnect with our spouses can be difficult. And if we do get a few minutes alone, it seems there are always little voices in the background, telling us their hungry or that their little brother or sister stole their favorite toy. These distractions can be draining when faced with them day after day. With this said, it is important for parents to make time for themselves once in a while and enjoy a "date night."

Regular date nights are important for parents for several reasons. For one, they help to foster communication without distractions. When you are alone, and kid-free, you can talk freely about your day or week or month, while laughing and getting the chance to just be yourselves. Date nights also help parents to relieve stress. Having that private, open communication allows for you to talk through whatever may be causing you to feel overwhelmed, allowing your partner to offer their advice, and vice-versa.

These interactions promote a healthy, positive relationship, which children often notice. When parents take time for themselves, it creates a feeling of independence for kids, helping to lesson emotional attachment. And when children get to do something that is fun and with other kids their own age, date nights can become a very positive experience for everyone!

Gurnee Park District Parents Night Outs provide a space for children to play and parents to feel relaxed knowing their kids are safe. Dedicated staff and volunteers help to make the night fun by providing special activities such as a bounce house in our gymnasium, board games, movies, & cute crafts in our activity room, and a variety of toys and books in our child care room! Children will stay busy all night long, while you get out, just the two of you!

We have two more Parents Night Outs coming up to close out 2021:

We hope you can take a night off with us!
