Growing Tree Preschool Hosts Drive-Thru Graduation

Today is the day! Growing Tree Preschool will host a drive-thru graduation ceremony for students. All graduations will start at 5:30 pm. On May 18 and May 19 drive-thru graduation will take place at Hunt Club Park Community Center (920 Hunt Club Rd, Gurnee, IL). May 20 drive-thru graduation will place at Viking Park Community Center (4374 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL).

On behalf of Gurnee Park District, we're so excited to welcome our Growing Tree Preschool families, especially our students, back to school. Students will accept their diplomas, memory books and receive much deserved well wishes from their teachers.

"Especially during these challenging times, I feel that it is important to honor this tradition,"

Growing Tree Preschool Manager, Sue McDougle, CPRP
Changes will be made to the traditional celebration, to ensure the safety of all families and guests. This is not limited to, but including:
  • All Growing Tree Preschool teachers and staff wearing masks and gloves
  • One at a time, as families drive up, teachers will place diplomas or achievement certificates and memory books at the end of a 6 foot folding table
  • Families will then accept diplomas, achievement certificates and memory books from the end of the table, remaining 6 feet apart from Growing Tree Preschool teachers and staff
  • No contact will take place

Teachers are excited to wish their families well and congratulate their students at this nontraditional, drive-thru ceremony.

Next year's returning Growing Tree Preschool students are also invited to participate in the fun."We deeply appreciate that parents trust us to provide their child with their early childhood education," expressed McDougle. The 2 ½ year old classrooms will receive a certificate of achievement and official promotion to the next class in the fall.

When the last day of preschool occurred on March 13, no one could have imagined the 2019-2020 school year would end there.Growing Tree Preschool continued their mission.Teachers provided weekly email communication with each class including activities, art projects, science experiments and curriculum components. All 3 and 4 year old classes had weekly zoom classes with their teachers and fellow students. In addition, the preschool teachers provided live, interactive circle time on Gurnee Park District's Facebook Page. The goal was to maintain a connection with students, stay connected, and provide parents with fun and educational activities to do at home.

Even with a nontraditional end to the school year, Growing Tree Preschool is proud to celebrate. "Saying goodbye is going to be bittersweet, we wish our graduating preschoolers the very best in kindergarten," expressed McDougle.
