GO The Distance: Youth Walking Challenge

With support from Woodland School District 50 and Gurnee School District 56, GO The Distance: Youth Walking Challenge combines efforts with the youngest members of the community. All children ages 5 to 14 are welcome to participate and attend the April 29 kick-off with their entire family. Please be sure to register for FREE to receive GO GURNEE t-shirt and walking tracker!

Registered, youth participants will receive a GO GURNEE t-shirt and game board, with a goal to complete 26.2 miles between the dates of April 29 and July 15. To move forward on the game board, GO The Distance participants can walk on their own, participate in sports or other physical activities or attend Gurnee Park District Glow Walks and Neighborhood Nights. Those that do not attend the April 29 Kick-Off event, will be sent their game board via email. For complete GO GURNEE events, visit the GPD calendar or facebook.com/GOGURNEE

While accomplishing Go The Distance: Youth Walking Challenge this summer, Executive Director, Susie Kuruvilla encourages children to visit the parks in their neighborhood. Sharing a recent study that:
  • 80% of the Gurnee community live within a 10 minute walk to their local park
  • 99% of the Gurnee community live with a 20 minute walk to their local park.

The GO movement would not be possible without community collaboration. With the GO The Distance: Youth Walking Challenge, the youngest members of the community have the opportunity to stay active and go the extra mile, starting on April 29!
