Gurnee Park District News

Winter Well Wishes from Executive Director, Susie Kuruvilla

It is hard to believe that 2017 is coming to an end. As always, this is a time to reflect on the year and to be grateful and give thanks. We at the Gurnee Park District appreciate our community partners who continue to support our mission of promoting fun and preserving nature. A special thanks is in order for the Lake County Health Department, Gurnee School Districts and the Village of Gurnee.

Thank You! Lake County Health Department

One of the most notable partnerships we developed this year is with the Lake County Health Department. Since the start of the GO Gurnee, our goal has been to spread this program to individual communities within Lake County. Lake County Health Department truly stepped up to support our efforts and built the Live Well Lake County Be Active: Walking Action Team. With their help and support Antioch and Waukegan have already adopted GO. Through collaboration with Lake County Health Department and the Waukegan Park District, the GO program was awarded a Best of the Best award from Illinois Association of Park Districts for Intergovernmental relations.

Thank You! School District 56

We continue to partner with our local school districts using their facilities for various recreation programs. Most notably we use the District 56 schools to run our afterschool program.  This fall, the playground at Spaulding School was renovated with the park district taking the lead The cost of the project was shared equally. The replacement of this 20 year old playground is a great addition for the school, children in the neighboring areas and is another example of how intergovernmental cooperation continues to benefit and serve our community.

The positive relationship shared with the Village of Gurnee, Gurnee school districts, Warren-Newport Library and Warren Township benefits the community. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and enhancing efforts for the future. A special thanks to all of you, the Village of Gurnee residents, for your continued support. We look forward to another great year in 2018. Hope to see you soon! As always, please feel free to call me if you have any questions, comments or ideas.
