Above the Barre Goes Beyond at I Love Dance

Gurnee Park District competitive dance team, Above the Barre demonstrated precision, poise and success at the 40th annual I Love Dance competition.

 As four year veterans to this competition, the success of the team was no surprise to Kris Norwood, Dance Coordinator for Gurnee Park District. "Team dynamic goes beyond hard work and dedication," shared Norwood. "It's a joint effort and it shows through the friendships made and parent support. We are truly a dance family." In addition to team performance awards. Sam Murphey was selected for the Teachers Excellence Award for her time, dedication and outstanding choreography. 

First place Above the Barre performances:
• Juniors Olivia, Cara, Olivia, Anna and Janae for their Lyrical and Jazz performances
• Senior 1 team Josephine, Alice and Emma for their Lyrical performance
• Senior 2 team Emily, Ella, Mollie, Megan, Ariana and Cheska for their Jazz performance

Second place Above the Barre performances:
• Senior 1 team Josephine Byers, Alice Jiang and Emma Kunz for their Jazz performance
• Senior 2 team Emily Cretors, Ella Doig, Mollie Gibbons, Megan Kampf, Ariana Reimer and Cheska San Pedro for their contemporary performance

"Sam and I are extremely proud of the entire Above the Barre Team. We are looking forward to seeing what next year will bring for these talented dancers."

As a team, we continue to work hard and prepare for the rest of the season," finished Norwood. 

Above the Barre will prepare for next season by performing at Sunrise Assisted Living Nursing Home on May 9 and at Gurnee Park District's Recital on June 3.
