2020 Gurnee Days Parade Information

The parade will be on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Noon and is one of the most popular events of Gurnee Days. It features more than 60 entries including local school bands, floats from local businesses and organizations, youth programs, and more!


The 2020 Gurnee Days theme is "Back to the Future-Gurnee Returns to the 80’s!”  Businesses and organizations - use your creativity to come up with a float entry that celebrates the theme!


The parade route begins a N. Greenleaf Street goes west on Old Grand Avenue and ends Emerald Avenue. You can expect to get the parade lineup and other instructions about staging the parade, drop off areas, and pick-up areas in late July.

Application Deadline

Application deadline is:  Friday, July 15, 2020.  Please note parade spots may be filled prior to deadline. Any applications received after July 15 will be charged a $50 late fee. 

Applications will be reviewed beginning May 1st, 2020. All resident organizations/businesses will be reviewed and accepted first.  After July 15, if additional openings are still available, non-resident units will be reviewed and accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Entry Types

Typical Parade Entry Types

  • Floats
  • Vehicles (cars, trucks, buses, bikes)
  • Marching Groups (bands, choirs, cheerleading, veterans groups)
  • Walking Units (school groups, clubs, political groups, etc.)

ALL units are restricted to one vehicle or one vehicle with a trailer.  Any exceptions must be requested as part of the application and are subject to approval by Gurnee Park District.

Entry Fees
$25 – Village of Gurnee Resident (business)/D121: Follows Event Theme

$50 – Village of Gurnee Resident (business)/D121: No Theme

$50 – Non-Village of Gurnee Resident (business)/Non-D121: Follows Event Theme

$100- Non-Village of Gurnee Resident (business)/Non-D121: No Theme

Parade Acceptance

Upon approval of your application the Gurnee Park District will contact you with a confirmation e-mail and payment details.  Please note parade applications will be reviewed once a week, beginning the week of May 1st.  You will be notified accordingly.

Terms and Conditions

  • All units will be inspected the day of the parade by Gurnee Days Officials for theme, safety, security, and any conflicts with Village of Gurnee/Gurnee Park District laws/ordinances. Any parade unit deemed unsafe, non-themed, inappropriate, or considered a security concern will be required to immediately make an adjustment to the unit, otherwise your unit will be removed from participation.
  • The parade line up will be at the intersection of the Delaney and Grandville Roads. All participants are asked to be respectful and show refrain from sitting on the front yards. Participants will need to pick up after themselves and not leave any garbage behind.
  • The parade will begin at approximately noon. You will be instructed by parade officials when and where your group will merge with the parade.
  • The name of your entry/business/organization must be displayed on your unit.
  • For safety reasons, throwing candy and/or items from vehicles or floats is not allowed. However, individuals can walk near the float and throw candy to people. Walkers should not stall the pace of the parade.
  • All handouts/flyers must be approved by the Gurnee Park District.
  • All parade entries must have an adult 18 or over present at all times.
  • The driver of a vehicular entry must by at least 18 years of age with a valid license and insurance.

Gurnee Days Parade - Event Release of Liability and Waiver and of Claims

  1. Authority:  I and/or Sponsor hereinafter referred to as “Parade Participant” represent to the Gurnee Park District that I am fully authorized for and bind the undersigned entrant regarding our entry in the Gurnee Days Parade. On behalf of the entrant, I agree that our Entry and all persons associated with it shall comply with all rules prescribed by the Gurnee Park District as deemed necessary for the efficient and safe conduct of the parade and all related activities.  I agree to conduct our Entry and myself in a proper, appropriate manner during the event and related activities and not to engage in any activity that is dangerous or likely to cause harm, injury or damage to the person or property of others. This includes but is not limited to abiding by all local and state ordinances.
  2. Indemnification: as a condition of being a participant of the parade, I agree on behalf of all participants in the Entry, to assume full responsibility for my conduct and the conduct and activities of our Entry and to indemnify and hold The Gurnee Park District harmless from any liability, claim, loss or expense (including attorney’s fees) caused or arising from (a) any conduct or negligence by me or any person or part of our Entry that causes harm, damage, or injury to myself or others (b) any breach or omission of my representations or warranties, (c) any claim by my participants, employees, subcontractors or suppliers, or (d) any infringement or violation by myself or others in the Entry of the rights of others.
  3. WAIVER and RELEASE: The Parade Participant does hereby release and discharge the Gurnee Park District, their officers, agents, volunteers, and employees from all claims, demands, and causes of action of every kind whatsoever for any damages and/or injuries which may result from my participation or the participation of my child or the participation of anyone involved with our Entry in the Gurnee Days Parade. The Gurnee Park District is not liable for any willful or negligent acts made by the Sponsor and/or the participants. This includes but is not limited to negligent driving, throwing of objects to the parade spectators and/or faulty parade equipment.
  4. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY: The Parade Participant does voluntarily agree to participate in this Event and the undersigned acknowledges that there may be some hazard of personal accident or injury during the participation of said event and willingly accepts responsibility for any personal injury that may arise from this voluntary participation. The undersigned agrees to hold the Village of Gurnee and the Gurnee Park District harmless in the event of a personal injury or accident involving any participant of said Entry. The injuries that may occur from but not limited to negligent construction of a float, negligent or willful driving of a float, negligent or willful driving by a person not part of the parade. The participant does not hold the Village of Gurnee or Gurnee Park District liable for anyone driving or crossing the barriers and interrupting the parade.
