It is a mostly flat gravel trail with almost no shade. We’ll be heading South along the Millennium Trail to an old train bridge which was built by the original owner of the land\, J. Ogden Armour (think hot dogs). The walk is 1.3 miles to the bridge and on the return trip we’ll take a small side loop allowing us to see the underside of the bridge. We’ll meet in the parking lot of a lovely outdoor amphitheater (Note: The entrance is very obscure\, it’s immediately after a small office complex on the right). That specific area is beautiful and wonderful to just sit and think. It connects to a longer trail in Deerpath Park. That trail is paved\, mostly flat\, and almost no shade. 3-mile loop (if you only want a mile stay in the Arbortheater area). Pets allowed. No restrooms. We’ll be walking by a very cool outdoor playgrounds so you might want to bring the kids. It is packed gravel. The beginning and end of the walk will be a decent size hill\, after that\, it will be mostly flat. Pets allowed. No restrooms. We’ll walk South for 20 or so minutes and then will turn around and head back to the parking lot. If we go to Oak Spring Road & back\, it will be roughly a 3-mile trip. DESCRIPTION:Join the GO Gurnee Walking Club at Volo Bog (28478 Brandenburg Road\, Ingleside)! \nView map location here! \nDirections/Walk Details: We’ll start on the floating half-mile trail out to the actual bog and then we’ll be taking the 2.5-mile trail that circumvents the property. Half is crushed stone and half is hard packed grass (with a very small section a floating walkway). It is quite hilly\, and as a matter of fact\, the preserve calls this “moderately” difficult\, making it one of our hardest walks. Both trails combined are 3.4 miles total. Pets allowed but not encouraged with an uneven floating bridge\, sensitive plants\, and ticks. Outhouse by the parking lot. \nNot a Walking Club member? Join for FREE today!
