Susie

It seems like summer came sooner this year than in the past. The grass is already green, flowers are blooming early and the playgrounds are filled with children on most days. The Parks Team is working diligently to keep up with the quick introduction of the spring season by sprucing up all the parks in record breaking time.

There is a lot of preparation, maintenance and projects taking place. One such project is upgrading our software system that is used for program registrations.  Many of you have received notification to update your household information.  If you have not already responded, please do so as soon as possible.  You can read more about this process below.

The Board approved the Fiscal Year 2012/2013 Budget at the April Board meeting. I am proud to say that the total budget of $11.6 million is a balanced budget. The two main revenue sources for the park district are property taxes and fees & charges, at 49% and 46% respectively.  (Further details on the budget can be found on our website).

We are always looking at ways to enhance your park experience.  Recently, the Board discussed and approved an ordinance  to make all the playgrounds and public gathering places such as shelters, sports fields, and special events, tobacco free. Further information can be found on page 45.

We have many programs planned this summer and I hope you find time to enjoy them with your friends. Hunt Club Park Aquatic Center will open the weekend of May 26th.  Season passes are still available. More information can be found on page 2. Our “Sounds of Summer” concert series will feature some well known bands featuring country, rock, Motown, top 40 hits and more!  Also, our Children’s Concert series, catering to our smallest music lovers, is scheduled for Tuesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:15am and will offer four opportunities to boogie and bop and make special summer memories. See pages 56-57 for all concert details.

As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions to further enhance our services.  Please feel free to call me at 847-623-7788 or e-mail me at susie@gurneeparkdistrict.com.

Sincerely,
Susie Kuruvilla, CPA, CPRP
