Dear Gurnee Park District Residents:
Spring is near and the Gurnee Park District has many exciting programs planned for you and your family this season!
Fun For All Ages As you look through the program guide, you will see something for everyone. Many view park districts as agencies that provide recreational programs for younger children in the community. Although many of our participants are below the age of 13, we serve a great number of participants above this age. We also provide opportunities for teens and adults to become involved with the park district and the community through volunteerism and employment. We employ a large population of teens year-round as well as at our various seasonal programs and facilities during the summer. We utilize over 500 volunteers at various programs throughout the park district annually.
We Believe in Cooperation In order to provide many of the services, facilities and programs that we offer, we work with other government agencies such as the Village of Gurnee, schools, township, and many community sports organizations. Our ultimate goal is to meet the needs of the community. The park district's philosophy in terms of our programs is to keep them recreational in nature so everyone has the opportunity to play. We understand that at some point participants may want to move into a competitive level program. Those participants are routed to our affiliate partners who can provide just that. These organizations include the Warren United Blazers (soccer), Blue Devil Swim Club, Gurnee Youth Baseball, Warren Girls Feeder Basketball, and the North Suburban Spartans (basketball). We also partner with Warren Special Recreation Association (WSRA) to provide recreational opportunities for those individuals with special needs.
If you are new to the Gurnee community, I encourage you to participate in our programs. I often hear stories about long term friendships that have formed between children, teens and adults as a result of their involvement with the park district. The Gurnee Park District is a great avenue for you to learn something new, get fit, meet friends and be involved in the community.
As always, feel free to call me at 847 623-7788 or e-mail me at susie@gurneeparkdistrict.com. I welcome your comments and suggestions to further enhance our services. Enjoy the Spring Season!
Sincerely,
